I never thought that "Spirituality & Empowerment" would equal "Cults, Altars & Ceremonies". What a waste of fucking time. Doesn't anyone care that they're paying $1300 for 15 weeks of indoctrination into one teacher's "spiritual journey"? I've never wanted out of a class so much in my life. I bolted at the break & I took my brand new "thoughts & reflections journal" with me.

The Onion makes me laugh every time.

When was the last time you watched a movie by Christopher Guest? After watching about 3 mins. of Best in Show at Virgin while trying not to buy dvds I decided it was a good time to rewatch it & Waiting For Guffman. Some of it is so funny that you can't laugh because you're stunned at how funny it is. Does that make sense? I still have to borrow Spinal Tap from somebody. If only I'd bought the Criterion when it came through Reckless. It's all out of print & shit. His new movie A Mighty Wind is coming out April 16th. It's a spoof of folk singers et al. While you're watching trailers, get excited about yet another good comic book or "graphic novel" being made into a movie. Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen stars Sean Connery & some other people who you can't recognize in the trailer. Now if only Terry Gilliam would do the Watchmen everything would be grand.

Oh wait... I just applied Snoop's Shizzolater to my weblog & the result are pretty hilarious. Try it out buds. (Insert Shizzolated sign-off here).
Playing hooky from school at 28 still feels like playing hooky from school. Do people even use that word anymore? At least I got some cleaning & laundry done today. I've always alternately bemoaned/bragged about the small amount of clothing that I own. The bummer is that I have to do laundry quite often, like all the time. We do have a washer & dryer in our bathroom, though. I rode my bike to Target to get some socks & ended up buying some Coca-Cola which, since ingested, has fully taken over my central nervous system. Can you imagine what Coke was like when it actually had cocaine in it? Maybe it had less sugar in it or something, I don't know. I put some new links over there, to the right. Maybe in a couple of weeks if I'm less lazy, I'll have a real website of my own to link to. The other day I made a rollover image with Dreamweaver 4. It felt like a triumph of epic proportions but it really wasn't. Dreamweaver's pretty easy. Right now my cat, Dr. Jones is sleeping on top of my monitor. After 2 years of trying to get him not to, I think that I've given up. It's warm up there & he can keep an eye on me. Snoop's Shizzolater was kind of a letdown. I only tried the NY Times front page, though. The best thing that it came up with was "Wage Gap Between Fools 'n Breezy Shrinks." I'm not even sure what that means.
I'm not sure but I think that I got run over by the first week of school.

Valentine's Day was avoided relatively easily. Mary & I went to see the decidedly unromantic Morvern Callar. It's the second movie by Scottish lady Lynne Ramsey. If the story doesn't put its hooks in you than you're dumb. I'd seen it last October at the Chicago Int'l Film Festival & even though I recently have some complex about seeing movies twice I was excited enough to drag Mary to see it. She liked it, by the way, or so she said. Ms. Ramsey's first movie, Ratcatcher is available on Criterion DVD.

I got my new camera finally but now I feel a bit weird about taking it outside. It cost a lot more than the 35mm Pentax that I've had for almost 10 years. I'm going to have to get used to the rangefinder, too. It's a bit weird. I can see the end of the lens when I look through.

In lieu of a profile of sorts, I'm including below a "memo" that I sent to some relatives who wanted to know what was going on in my life.

Hello

Rob Lomblad has currently begun work on what is to be his final undergraduate semester at Columbia College - Chicago. In June he will receive a Bachelor of the Arts in Photography. In the fall, he will be taking some "time off" to get ready for graduate school applications in January & February of 2004. At this time, his intended target is a Masters of Fine Art (MFA) from a school that has yet to be decided. The list of possibilities currently includes the School of Visual Arts in New York City, the Massachusetts School of Art in Boston, the California College of Arts & Crafts & the San Francisco Art Institute, both in the great "City by the Bay."

Rob is coming up on his sixth year of employment at the venerable Reckless Record of Chicago. He has risen through the ranks & is now considered to be among, if not the best, judge of vinyl grading on the West Side. His specialties include early Blue Note & Impulse pressings, as well as mid to late 90's independent rock music. He also continues to work as a teacher's assistant & a lab technician in Columbia's Digital Imaging Lab where he's expanded his knowledge of a host of "cutting-edge" software & hardware developments.

On a personal note, Rob has been spending a lot of time in the company of a certain girl named Mary Flatley. Mary hails from outside of Erie, Pennsylvania & is in Chicago studying photography at Columbia College. What a coincidence! The two seem to be quite fond of each other but it is indeed "to soon to tell."

For more "up to the minute" update on Rob, please visit maybe it's just me

Thank You & Good Day!
