Regardless of whether the internet is shit or not, you have to agree that there are some things that make it all worth while. One of those things is the Library of Congress' Prints & Photo Division's website. You can download fullsize scans of 500,000 images that they have in the archive. And they've only scanned half so far. My favorite collection so far is the Alan Lomax images. They also have Farm Service Administration pictures & a whole bunch (5000!) by Mathew Brady. They're all searchable in any number of ways, too.
